Enhancing Construction Quality And Safety Through Advanced Building Inspection Techniques: A Survey

Introduction

Reflective writing has several features. It mainly consists of the experiences gathered by oneself in doing something. In this research, I tried to find out data about how the inspections of the buildings affect the quality of the construction of buildings. Along with this, finding out the safety of the construction results from inspection was also my intention. To do this, I planned a method for conducting research on this topic. In this report, I will present the knowledge that I have gathered during this research. Moreover, my experiences during this research will also be shared here. I also encountered some unforeseen events that I had to tackle to complete this research. Moreover, some alternative methods that could have been implemented in this research for better results will also be presented here.

Context Awareness

In the current day, it is more needed that project lives are more. This is because it results in increased sustainability. When the life span of buildings is longer, less construction work is required. Hence, it brings sustainability. Also, the long life of buildings results in saving costs. There are different practices done to achieve this. Among these practices, the use of inspection is one of the best practices (Markowski et al. 2021). In this method, the condition of the building is surveyed. This is done for completed projects. In this way, the existing defects in the building can be found and necessary measures according to this can be taken. This can also be implemented during the construction of a structure. During construction, inspections can be done to check the quality of work. Moreover, the risks present at the site can also be identified by the inspection. In this way, the project “quality & safety” can be improved by inspection. While doing this research I got familiar with these things.

Significant Moments

During this research, I faced some events that could have been affecting my research and my understanding of this topic quite a lot. Although, I managed to take those issues and succeeded in completing the research. These issues are as follows.

Difficulty in finding sources for data collection

This was one of the issues that I faced at the start of the research. I knew that there was a lot of construction project data I would get. However, how I will select the most genuine data became a problem. This is because improper data might have been resulting in degrading the results of my research.

Influence of similar research

Another issue that I faced was the influence of other researchers. I found many similar types of research. However, I wanted to make my research unique. So, my plan was to take inspiration from similar research but at the same time, I intended to make my research different from the other research (Smith et al. 2023). For this, I always had to focus on my research objective while analyzing other research papers.

Sorting of data

Another issue that I faced was differentiating between data that are important and that are not so important. I found that I collected a lot of secondary data on the research topic. However, not every content present in those data was relevant to my research. So, I had to analyze those data thoroughly so that I could extract the most authentic data from them (Mouras & Badri, 2020). This was challenging.

Event Interpretation

The events described above, which I faced during this research have their own meaning. The first event was about finding out proper sources of data for the research. This signifies that there are a lot of sources are there from where data can be collected. However, all of these sources do not present authentic data. Hence, I found that proper selection of data sources is necessary for research success.

Another event was the influence of similar research. I found that when we tend to take help from any source the contents of the research try to take over us. This can make us deviate from our research objectives (Bussier & Chong, 2022). So, in order to conduct unique research it is needed that we always stick to the research objectives.

Another event was about the sorting of data. For this, the main issue was to extract the essential data from the selected sources. This made me understand that analysis of data is very much necessary.

Alternatives of Interpretations

Here, alternatives refer to the methods or steps that could have been adopted to tackle the issues that I faced in this research. For selecting the best sources, I would have researched more to get the proper sources of data. Moreover, to make a unique research I would have gone through the objectives of the research that I was taking as a reference for my research. In this way, it would have been a lot better to distinguish between my research objectives and other research (Kineber et al. 2020). Sorting of data can be done by selecting some key phrases and topics that can be used for finding data from the reference research.

Considerations of Literature

To obtain conclusions from this research, I look for similar research. In other words, I matched my research objective with other`s research objectives and then looked for the conclusions that were presented in those journals. In this way, I was able to reach to proper conclusions for the research.

Significance of the Incidents

The incidents that I faced, had their own significance. The difficulties that I faced during the selection of data sources taught me the importance of data and the proper method of collecting data for research. Moreover, data that suits the research objective should only be considered for finding out research results (Tolah et al. 2021). In addition to this, I also found that sorting data reduces the burden of analyzing a huge amount of data and also increases the accuracy of results.

Conclusion

In this report, I have discussed the several experiences that I have gathered during my research. I found that inspection is an excellent method that can enhance the quality of construction and safety of projects. Moreover, I got to know the importance of data for research. Proper sources are to be used for collecting data so that such data can publish the actual scenario of the research topic. I presented the three issues that I faced during this research. The explanation of the meanings of these challenges along with the alternative approaches that could be taken for resolving these issues is present here.
