From Inequality to Empowerment: The Story of Aboriginal Rights and Institutional Influence in Australia

Introduction

Indigenous Australians are people who belong to a familial heritage and also belong to a particular ethnic group who were living within the Australian continent before the British colonisation. The current study will outline the evaluation of the two events from Australian history which helps in analysing the position of the indigenous Australians. These two events include 1963- the Equal Wages for Aborigines Committee campaign against labour exploitation and wage equality for indigenous workers. Another event includes the 1972 Aboriginal Tent Embassy. Along with this, it will also outline the role of the institutions and how they have used Australian history to reproduce the knowledge relating to the original Australian. In the end, the reflection relating to the use of the influence of history over thinking will be outlined.

PART A

History

The Aboriginal refers to the people who belong to the Main Land of Australia. Whereas the Torres Strait Islanders are the people who belong to 274 islands which are located within North Australia. Aboriginal is a term which is used for original inhabitants (Butler and et.al. 2019). This simply means that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are the people who are the original inhabitants of the place. But then also these people are mistreated and as a result of this, the current study will outline the history of the Aboriginals within the country and the way they are treated.

Event 1 (Before referendum)

1963—The Equal Wages for Aborigines Committee is formed and campaigns against labour exploitation and for wage equality for Indigenous workers.

This event took place in 1963 when equal wages were provided to the Aborigines committee. This committee was formed to organise a campaign against labour exploitation and inequality in the wages of Indigenous workers. The goal of this policy was to ensure that there was no inequality within the wages provided to the Aboriginals. In earlier times indigenous Australian was positioned discriminated and as a result of this, the wages of the Aboriginals were less (Elder and Moore, (Eds.) 2012). This was particularly because of the reason that there was differentiation taking place among the people based on their originality. Also, non-indigenous people were preferred over other people and as a result of this differentiation was high. Thus, to improve the position the decision of equal wages for Aborigines committee was formed (Timeline—Events that led to the 1967 Referendum, 2023). This committee majorly emphasizes improving the position of indigenous Australians and tries to improve the relationship with the wider Australian society. Hence, it results in the effective development of the Aboriginal Australian. It is particularly focused on improving the similarities between the normal Australian and the indigenous Australian. This will reduce the disparity between both categories of people living within the country.

Event 2 (After referendum)

1972- Aboriginal Tent Embassy

Within the year 1972, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy was established in front of the Parliament House. This Embassy was set up by 4 indigenous men who set up a beach umbrella opposite the parliament house and stated it as the Aboriginal embassy. The major role in establishing this tent embassy as Gary Foley who was the first person to act in the first Indigenous Australian stage production. These members protest against the government's approach to indigenous land rights.

Thus to protest, this Embassy was created and the operation of the embassy was just in front of the Parliament. Post-referendum this was implemented because Aboriginals wanted to have rights according to the northern territory as well (Harfield and et.al. 2020). This simply means that the Aboriginal people also wanted to have similar rights as the normal people have in Australia. This Embassy demanded some of the issues which included proper ownership and mining rights as compared to the normal Australian. This simply meant that Aboriginal people also demanded a similar kind of rights and working pattern that any normal Australian has. In addition to this, ownership of areas like the City, compensation for land and preservation of all the sacred sites within Australia was also demanded with the help of this Embassy. With time it was analysed that high support was shown by the official representatives from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (Elder, 1998). Thus, as a result of this, the current Embassy's goal was to provide an effective similarity between normal Australians and Aboriginals.

Institution

With the evaluation, it is evident that Institutions are having a powerful influence over the knowledge and the level of work of the person. This institution includes the use of different schools educational institutions government media and many other different kinds of sources. The Institutions help share the information with others. Moreover, with the help of the above 2 events, it is evident that the sharing of this information will help the people in improving the status of the original. This is particularly because of the reason that with the help of these events, people have become aware of the fact that no inequality can be implemented by the people based on Aboriginality (Falls and Anderson, 2022). In addition to this another event post-referendum stated that setting up of the embassy assisted in improving the position of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with Australia.

Hence with the help of these institutions, the knowledge relating to history will be shared effectively. This will help the people improve their knowledge relating to the status of Aboriginal Australians (Lim and et.al, 2021). Further, with the help of the different discourses and norms relating to both events, it is evident that effective working of the Aboriginal Australian is not provided. Further, they have to face many difficulties while working within the external environment. This is particularly because of the reason that people discriminate based on the status of the person. In case they are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander then they are discriminated against and not treated well based on the originality of where they belong that is the race to which they belong (Beresford and Omaji, 1998). This discrimination took place based on race and the person must eradicate the racism. Thus, it can impact the mental status of the person and the overall working efficiency can be affected.

Thus, these institutions like the school, government, media and other related places are powerful in influencing and shaping the level of knowledge of people. For instance, within the school every child is taught to provide respect to every person irrespective of their status or position then it will improve the status of Aboriginals within Australia. Similarly when the government make some Strategies and laws relating to the treatment of Aboriginals then it will result in an improvement in the thinking capability of the person (Randell-Moon et al, 2019). In addition to this when the government makes specific policies then automatically every person has to follow them and this will improve the status of the indigenous people. Further, with the help of the evaluation, it is evident that racialisation and collective and individual standpoints place or crucial role within the indigenous people and their working. It is particularly because of the reason that it helps in improving the efficiency of the indigenous people and provides a better working environment within the whole society.

Along with this, it was evaluated that for spreading the knowledge of the status of Aboriginals the use of institutions is very powerful. The reason underlying the fact is that when the people teach relating to the aboriginals then automatically it will be improving the overall efficiency of people. The reason underlying the fact is that people will have knowledge relating to the history of the Aboriginals and how they are treated (Gibson and McAllister, 2015). Thus, it will assist the people in taking proper care of the people and ultimately it will help them to improve their status within the society. Moreover, with the power of this institution, all the related information can be shared effectively and as a result of this, the status of the aboriginals within the society can be improved a little. Thus, the different institutions like schools, colleges and media will help in promoting the Aboriginals and consequently, their status within the society will be improved more.

With the help of the above study, it is evident that the use of effective policies and procedures is very necessary. This is particularly because of the reason that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are the people who are mistreated. Thus, to avoid this miss treatment all these events and policies must be effectively followed. In addition to this, the social and historical work influences the understanding to a great extent (Gibson and et.al, 2021). This is particularly because of the reason that social and institutional learning helps in understanding the concept of Aboriginal in a better manner. Thus, as a result of this, the overall working efficiency is improved and people can understand the requirements of the Aboriginals in a better manner. Moreover, Institutions like Schools, professional careers and many other different kinds of activities helped me in developing detailed knowledge relating to the indigenous people and Australians within Australia (Griffiths and et.al, 2019). For instance, within the school, it is taught to the children that they must respect every person irrespective of the ethnicity to which they belong. This understanding helps the students respect one another and assist the Aboriginals rather than bullying them.

Hence, effective learning based on Aboriginality will be helpful to the people in the issues. This is particularly because of the reason that when the children are not taught relating to Aboriginality then it will impact the overall working and living of the Aboriginals within the society. This is particularly because of the reason that when the Aboriginal person is treated negatively it will impact the overall working efficiency. Thus as a result of this, the working capability of the person is reduced and it will impact the overall work to a great extent. Hence, it was evaluated that it is the responsibility of the different Institutions like schools, colleges and workplaces to promote working that respects Aboriginal people (Azzopardi and et.al. 2020). This is particularly necessary because when the Aboriginality is reduced then automatically the tourism sector will flourish. Thus, as a result of this, it will increase the working capability and efficiency of the people. Thus, as a result of this overall working efficiency of the company will be improved and will help in respecting every person belonging to any kind of category.

CONCLUSION

In the end, it is concluded that Aboriginals and Taurus rate islanders are the people who are the original inhabitants of the country. The above study highlighted that the Aboriginal people were the ones who entered the city during the earlier times. The study also highlighted that complying with the different events of the referendum is very necessary. It outlined the implementation of the equal wage right and the creation of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. In the end, it was analysed that Institutions like schools, colleges and other corporate offices are interested in sharing knowledge relating to the aboriginals so that the working capability and status in society can be improved. Moreover, the study also highlighted that the different skills were also enhanced while working on the project. It included enhancing knowledge that effective compliance with policies and procedures is very necessary for improving the working and status of Aboriginals and other people.
